The funding of grants is the singular feature that separates MSF from all other community organizations and which embodies the reason for our continuing success within the school district.
DEPTH AND BREADTH Each grant that we award has the power to reach across the entire district, influence every curriculum area and touch every student. For instance, here is a sampling of our 2009/2010 school year grants:
At MHS -Seven new Smart Boards for the Science Department - New computers for Art Department students to create digital portfolios. - A new library of professional journals and books to help Special Ed teachers provide the most current research-based instruction -An updated video production lab with all-new Macintosh computers and editing decks
At Hommocks -New solar panels on the roof to provide hands-on lessons in alternative energy -Text Sets to allow students to delve more deeply into a topic from a variety of literary sources -Smart Music, a highly-interactive software program, to give students flexibility to practice at home and receive feedback on their sound files -A new age-appropriate circuit of weight-resistance equipment for added physical benefits in gym classes
At the elementary schools -Several new laptop stations at Mamaroneck Avenue, Central and Murray Avenue -Technology equipment for Chatsworth Avenue to establish a school- wide, student-run Web site -A core library of bilingual books for young readers at Central School to take home and read with family members -Special toolkits with cameras and microscopes to turn Mamaroneck Avenue kindergartens into Young Investigators -A school-wide multidisciplinary curriculum in the American Experience to help Murray Avenue students ‘discover’ their country through folk traditions and culture
And remember that every one of these grants was made possible through the generous donations of people like you.
